A Worldbuilding Project

Lumeria

A world of symbiosis, mutation, and survival.

Lumeria is a fragment of the Strip.
The Strip is a 300-kilometer-wide ring of land wrapped around a tidally locked planet.
On one of its sides, a sunlit hellscape.
On the other side, eternal frost.

The World

~300km

The Strip

The only habitable band on the planet. Bordered by scorching and frozen wastelands on either side.

700km

The Dead Margins

On either side of the Strip stretches land that permits no permanent life.

Known Zones

Lumeria, Marrie, Yuseph, Yoodash, Lookash. Each is a sovereign enclave, unreachable by armies.

The Infection

Every living thing in Lumeria carries mutation. There is no clean baseline anymore. There is only degree.

History

A colony ship crashed on an extreme tidally locked planet. Survivors scattered across the surface and clawed their way to the habitable zones — a narrow Strip where life is possible, but never safe. Generations of mutation, parasitic infection, and failed crusades have transformed the colonists into something new. Neither fully human nor fully of this world. Society is neo-medieval, faith is biological, and the only real power is symbiosis.

How It All Went Wrong

The Crash
The Colony Ship Falls: A vessel carrying settlers, cloning labs, and survival technology crash-lands. Pods scatter across the surface. Survivors converge on the nearest safe zones. Some initial technology is salvaged.

First Contact
The Infection Begins: Direct contact with the native ecosystem triggers mass infection. Most colonists die. Survivors discover that symbiosis is the only viable survival strategy. Med-kits are reformulated around local parasites.

The Collapse of Firepower
The Rise of the Glyphs: Parasites with neural hijacking capabilities turn soldiers against their own settlements. Firearms become liabilities. Heavy weapons are buried or destroyed. Melee weapons and glyph-seeds replace them entirely.

The Catholic Crusade
Archangels & Cherubs Deployed: The Catholic enclave, convinced they live in Purgatory, launches a crusade using engineered giants resembling Archangels and their smaller companions made after Cherubs. They conquer neighboring zones, but their creations are slowly colonized by native parasites.

Present Day
The Neo-Medieval World: Walled cities, cave settlements and clan structures. Walkers roam the deserts. Mages are gathered into Triads. Hunters scavenge ancient tech. The Mulcs slowly ride their giant hosts toward new feeding grounds.

Glyphs

When parasites with neural hijacking capabilities turned armed soldiers against their own settlements, firearms became the most dangerous thing a human could carry. Heavy weapons were buried, dismantled, destroyed. They were replaced by melee weapons bonded with fungal symbiotes and with bioengineered capsules from the original survival kits, implanted into flesh, growing visible as raised scar-tattoos beneath the skin.

They are no longer called implants. They are called Glyphs.
